Indonesia is making strides towards greater energy resilience and security with additional oil production from Banyu Urip field in East Java.
Powered by the Banyu Urip Infill Clastic (BUIC) drilling project, at our Cepu Block operation, these new wells support Indonesia’s energy goals. And as these new wells come online, we’re proud to be a key partner in helping Indonesia achieve its target.
This development is a major boost to the Banyu Urip field, which already accounts for more than 25% of Indonesia's national oil production. Discovered in 2001 with an estimated 450 million barrels of oil, we have since expanded its potential to more than 1 billion barrels. The addition of these latest wells will contribute up to 30,000 barrels per day to national production, further strengthening Banyu Urip's role in supporting Indonesia's energy security and economic growth.
“We are proud to support Indonesia’s energy goals,” President of ExxonMobil Indonesia, Wade Floyd, said.
He said a major pride point for ExxonMobil is also how these new wells were developed, which demonstrated the strength of local talent and capability in the country.
Using state-of-the-art drill rigs built in Indonesia, the drilling operations were carried out by an almost entirely Indonesian team.

“It shows our commitment to local capability development, having been executed with a team of over 99% Indonesian talent,” Wade said, adding that they were not only able to complete operations on time, but ahead of time.
“This project, delivered 10 months ahead of schedule, reflects ExxonMobil’s leading technology, scale, and execution excellence,” Wade added.
He said these new wells will come online throughout July, helping the Cepu Block exceed national production targets and reinforcing Indonesia’s path toward energy resilience and security.

The inauguration of this additional production capacity was also attended virtually by Indonesia’s president, Prabowo Subianto, who praised ExxonMobil for helping to advance Indonesia and its people.
“I would like to thank ExxonMobil for your loyalty to Indonesia,” President Subianto said.
“We won’t forget your contributions in helping us achieve a modern and self-reliant nation.”
