In celebration of the Mossmorran plant’s 40th anniversary, ExxonMobil FEP collaborated with the Employability Access Support for Young People Partnership (EASYP) - a community-based project that offers employability training for 16-18 year olds.
The donation, with a value of £15,000, will provide essential tools for young people to access online learning, and complete further training.
Young individuals are referred to EASYP by their former schools, having been identified as needing additional support to get a step ahead in life.
In collaboration with the community education team, the group are brought together to develop personal and social development skills. They explore their future aspirations and receive training to prepare for further education, employment or volunteering opportunities.
Izzy Scott-Trimm, Community Development Team Manager at EASYP, said: “These laptops will make such a huge difference to our young people. This isn’t just an opportunity to gain access to vital resources but also supports the personal development of participants and increases their confidence. This gifted resource will help bridge the digital divide and is absolutely something that will make a significant impact on their lives and future career aspirations.”
Toby Hamblin, Plant Manager at ExxonMobil FEP, visited the local EASYP group at the Maxwell Centre in Cowdenbeath to see first-hand how the initiative is making a difference. During the visit, he met with community education staff and young people attending the programme to learn more about their experiences and how the laptops will support their ambitions.
“We hope these laptops form a meaningful investment in the future of Fife’s young people,” said Toby.
“Reaching a positive destination in life should be possible for every young person, with no barriers and no holds barred. At ExxonMobil FEP, we’re committed not just to supporting our employees, but also to making a difference to the future workforce of Fife and we are thrilled with the outcome of this initiative.”
