The future of diesel fuel has arrived, and it starts in Strathcona.
Imperial Oil has completed construction of a renewable diesel facility at its Strathcona refinery near Edmonton, Canada, a milestone for Canadian operations. The facility is expected to be Canada’s largest renewable diesel facility, with the capacity to produce up to 20,000 barrels a day of lower greenhouse gas emission fuels emission fuels.*
Renewable diesel? That’s right.
The new renewable diesel facility at the Strathcona refinery exemplifies how Imperial is helping fuel a lower-emissions future and now supplies customers in Western Canada and Imperial operations in Northern Alberta, Canada. Additionally, the facility is sourcing bio-feedstocks from Canadian agricultural suppliers to produce renewable diesel that can be used with no engine modifications, while also being well suited for Canada’s cold weather conditions.
ExxonMobil remains focused on innovation, including the use of proprietary catalysts. A dedicated team and sound economic policies have helped drive this exciting chapter forward. Supportive, durable government policies have been instrumental in unlocking this investment, catalyzing demand for renewable fuels and enabling this step toward fueling a lower-emission future.
* Optimizing current production based on product demand, compliance requirements, and supplier capabilities for both the renewable feedstock and also the required hydrogen for processing.
